Delores Jenkins, 84, of Grant, died on Sept. 10, 2014, at the Perkins County Community Hospital.
She was born on Feb. 23 1930, at Somerset, to Roy and Lydia (Halsey) Knox. She attended rural school and later attended school in North Platte. As a young girl she volunteered at the North Platte Canteen during World War II.
Delores was married to Howard Jenkins on Sept. 20, 1947. They made their home in different communities and later farmed near Dickens.
In 1991 they moved to Grant. Howard died in 1998 and in 2000 she moved to Grand Island to help her daughter and son-in-law operate their cafe. She returned to Grant in 2008.
While living near Dickens, Delores belonged to the Wallace U.M.W., the Legion Auxiliary and an extension club in Maywood. She cooked for Wallace Public Schools and later the Perkins County Community Hospital.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Doug Lee; one granddaughter, Andra Kosmicki; one great-granddaughter, Brynn Chamness; and three brothers.
She is survived by one son, Harlan (Vida) Jenkins, of O’Neill; four daughters, Jean (Loyd) Remus, of Colorado Springs, Peggy (Bennett) Chamness, of Grand Island, Pam (David) Heitman, of North Platte, and Penny Lee, of Grant; 42 grand and great-grandchildren; one brother, Butch Knox, of Colorado Spring; many other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 12:30 p.m. (CDT) on Monday, Sept. 15, at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell with John Long officiating. Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
