James C. Fennell was the brother-in-law of John Hubbard Hobbs, the former owner of Hobbs Island. His headstone is believed to be the oldest in Madison County. Fennell was first buried in a cemetery north of the Hobbs Cemetery. Later he was moved to the Hobbs Cemetery and was buried on top of John Hobbs. John Hobbs does not have a tombstone.
