WASHINGTON, Iowa — Evelyn Hope (Mills) Carlisle, 88, of Nichols, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Her body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy at the University of Iowa. Toni Chandler assisted the family with a prayer service at the University of Iowa Hospital. Private family interment will take place at the Nichols Cemetery in Nichols at a later date. The Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Evelyn was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Muscatine, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Phillips) Mills. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1944. Evelyn was married to Forest “Lindy” Carlisle on June 23, 1950. They later divorced.
Evelyn lived most of her adult life in Nichols. She was a homemaker and devoted her time to raising and caring for her children. In her earlier years, Evelyn worked at the Button Factory in Muscatine and also worked as a telephone operator.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennean (Carlisle) Milam and husband Tom of West Chester; son, George W. Carlisle of Nichols; two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Mills and four brothers and sisters.
