Deanna Phillips services held

Private family graveside services were held at the Phillips Cemetery at Bonair. Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiated. Lindstrom Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Deanna, 78, died Friday, September 8, 2000 at the Cresco Care Center.

Deanna Mabel Phillips was born January 17, 1922 in Ericson, NE, the daughter of Charles and Ella Millionee (Reineke) Boyles. She was the eldest of six children. In October of 1937, the family moved to Cresco, and she graduated from Cresco High School in 1939. Though the efforts of George Carroll, the high school principal, she received a full scholarship for nurses training at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, IL and she graduated in May of 1943.

On June 10, 1943, she married Richard Monroe Phillips in Yuma, AZ. Richard and Deanna lived in California, Arkansas, Iowa, and Colorado returning to Iowa in 1954 where they operated a dairy farm until retirement in 1984.

Deanna joined the Methodist Episcopal Church as a teenager. In 1954 she became a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and ser served as both local and District President and as a State Officer.

Survivors include four sons: Richard D. of Des Moines, William of Nevada, Neil of Buffalo, NY, and Bruce of Cresco; one daughter Jerilyn Jean of Ramona, CA; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers; James of Guthrie Center, Russell of Woodward, CA, and Charles of Dallas Center; and one sister: Geraldine Danker of Woodward.

Deanna was preceded in death by her husband Richard; her parents; and one brother, Robert.
