James B. Thompson, 81, of St. Albans died Feb. 21, 2003, at Thomas Memorial Hospital. He retired from C&P Telephone Co. after 43 years of service, where he worked as an engineer. He was a member and past deacon at Highlawn Baptist Church, St. Albans, where he also coached the church basketball league. He was a member of the Lions Club, a life member of Pioneers of America, a past curator for C&P Pioneer Museum, and an Army veteran of World War II. He also installed life lines for the elderly and hearing impaired. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy; son, James Donald Thompson of Denver, Colo.; daughters, Jennifer T. McCaskey of Richmond, Va., Penny T. Hammonds of Virginia Beach, Va., Harryette A. Thompson of Dunbar and Jo T. Strong of Shelbyville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren.
