Engineer. A native of Prussia, Schussler came to the United States and started working with the Spring Valley Water Company, reaching the position of Chief Engineer. Schussler is best remembered for designing and supervising the building of the Crystal Springs Dam and creating a series of artificial lakes in San Mateo County, California. This project would ultimately provide most of the drinking water to San Mateo and San Francisco Counties. Schussler would also be involved in designing a water system for Virginia City, Nevada as well as creating numerous ditches in Hawaii working for sugar titan, Claus Spreckels.
