"I interviewed a grandson of Joseph Paschal Ashmore in 1972. He was 90 at the time and had an amazing memory. He told me that Joesph P. died in 1860 in New Orleans, where he had gone to find work and had a heat stroke. He was a fine carriage maker, and apparently, he was buried in New Orleans. Later I read almost the entire 1860 census of New Orleans and actually found him as a patient in a hospital. I have never been able to find where he was buried. "
