Ruby J. Stivers Greer, 81, finished her dance with life Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at her home. A lifelong Methodist, Ruby was a professional hairdresser, an avid seamstress, and a homemaker extraordinaire. She was born in Lordsburg, New Mexico, and grew up in Hardin County after her father moved the family here to work at "Camp Knox" during the Great Depression. Ruby graduated from Vine Grove High School in the Class of 1951, finished beauty school, then cut and styled hair, working for herself and for Brown Funeral Home for many years. She was a lover of nature and animals, who enjoyed feeding the birds and loving her dog "Miss T". A beloved wife and mother, Ruby was preceded in death by her son, Don Stivers; father, Ralph M. Bartlett; her mother, Hazel Ada Hawkins;and her sisters, Helen Jones, and Shirley Brough. She is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Lee Greer, and four children: daughters, Jan (Mark) Cooke of Glendale, Mona (John) Ashley of Rineyville, and Judy Stivers of Lexington, SC, and son, Scott (DeAnna) Stivers of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Carmen Combs of Elizabethtown and Rena (Eric Cogdell) Bartlett of Rineyville; two step-children, Jeff Greer of Sacramento, CA and Jennifer (Robert Gandy) Greer of Harpersville, AL; six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Michael L. Gibbons officiating. Burial will follow in Hardin Memorial Park.
