George retired from US Steel with thirty-eight years of service as an engineer in the M&E Department. He was a member of Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church, the Chapel Sunday School Class, and president of Harmonicas of Alabama for many years. He was known for his love of the harmonica and his beautiful singing voice.

He was an active member of many senior citizen dances in the area, especially Brooklane Community Center in Hueytown. He loved music, camping, travel and making friends along the way.

He was survived by his wife of 65 years, 3 sons, 6 grandchildren, and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jesse Rainey; 4 sisters, Frances Powers, Dot Harding, Betty McKay, and Tommie Neumann; and 2 brothers, Charles and Johnny Rainey.

Services were held at Bell Forestdale Chapel.
