DEATH CLAIMS MRS. BESSOLO IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. Helen Lescher Bessolo, 65, of 1447 N. Michigan Ave., Pasadena, Calif., died Thursday in a Pasadena hospital, according to word received here Friday. Cause of death was not known. Information was received here by Atty. Kenneth Peel from Mrs. Bessolo's banker in Pasadena. Funeral arrangements are pending. It was not known whether the body will be returned to Galesburg for burial.

Mrs. Bellolo went to California shortly after the death, June 16, 1959, of her son, George Reeves, who was best known for his TV portrayal of "Superman." Information at the time of the son's death was that it apparently was a suicide, but his mother had insisted that he did not take his own life.

CONTESTS WILL
Purpose of Mrs. Bessolo's trip to California after her son's death, it was reported, was to contest his will. The major portion of his estate was left to Toni Mannix, a woman Reeves had said was annoying him.
Mrs. Bessolo, who had maintained a home in California for several years prior to 1959 and while living in Galesburg, did not return here after the 1959 trip, but was said to have planned a trip here this fall. She had been ill for some time.
Mrs. Bessolo was the former Helen Lescher, whose father George Lescher founded the Lescher Drug Store, 15 E. Main St., now the Hawthorne Drug Store. Mrs. Bessolo was the present owner of the building occupied by the store, along with other properties in that area.
Reeves, in addition to his "Superman" role, had starred in movies, including "Gone With the Wind" and "Proudly We Hail." He also had parts in other movies and television presentations.
Mrs. Alma Archer Fox, a cousin of Mrs. Bessolo, resides at 215 W. Tompkins St.

BESSOLO RITES SET FOR TUESDAY IN CALIFORNIA
Funeral services for Mrs. Helen Lescher Bessolo, 65, formerly of Galesburg, who died Thursday in a hospital at Pasadena, Calif., will be conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Turner and Stevens Mortuary at Pasadena.
A United Press International news story today related that Mrs. Charles E. Chase, whose husband was Mrs. Bessolo's nephew, said the body might be taken to Cincinnati, Ohio, for burial. The dispatch stated that her son, George Lescher Bessolo, who as actor George Reeves, was television's "Superman," was buried at Cincinnati.
Mrs. Bessolo's death took place five years and two days after the June 16, 1959, death of her son. At that time, his death was reported to have been a suicide. Mrs. Bessolo went to California soon after her son's death maintaining that he had not taken his own life. She engaged a private detective and personally devoted extended time in her apparently unsuccessful effort to prove that his death was not suicidal.
She had a Pasadena address for some 30 years and maintained a home there even while residing in Galesburg. She had not returned after the 1959 trip, but was reported to have planned to visit here this fall.
