Katie Margaret (Gladney) McGuire of Austin, passed peacefully into the tender care of our Lord on July 6, 2014. She was born on November 1, 1914 in Waxahachie, Texas to H.R. Gladney and Ella Nelson Gladney. Margaret was a Christian her entire life. Margaret received her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas A. and I. Kingsville and enjoyed a long teaching career culminating with many years as third-grade teacher at Casis Elementary School. Margaret enjoyed her retirement after 40 years of teaching by doing volunteer work, traveling, gardening, and playing bridge. She was a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church, The UT Faculty Wives' Club, Travis County Chapter of DAR, and Austin Women's Club. Margaret unconditionally loved her family and was there for anyone who needed her. Everyone in the family will remember her deep faith, her warm hospitality and good home cooking. The family will always be grateful to the wonderful care she received at the hospice facility Home of Southern Hospitality.

Margaret was a devoted wife of Noel C. McGuire who preceded her in death in 1993. Also preceding her in death, Eloise McGuire Dobinson, daughter, Winston Gladney, brother, and sisters Myrtle Gladney Smith and Montel Gladney Duncan.

Margaret is survived by William Gladney, brother, Dorothy McGuire Foster, daughter and grandchildren, Claire McCullough, Susan Dobinson, Charles Foster and Lori Foster Gallagher. Margaret's great-grandchildren are Tyler McCullough, Mary Rose Gallagher and Annie Gallagher. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Margaret enjoyed her retirement after 40 years of teaching by doing volunteer work, traveling, gardening, and playing bridge. She was a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church, The UT Faculty Wives' Club, Travis County Chapter of DAR, and Austin Women's Club.

Visitation will be Friday, July 11, 2014 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish at 3125 North Lamar Blvd.

We will celebrate Margaret's life Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:30 pm in the Chapel at Tarrytown United Methodist Church, 2601 Exposition Blvd. A reception will follow the memorial service.
