Major League Baseball Player. Given the nickname "Wagon Tongue" due to his use of salty language, he was a good hitting, bad fielding infielder/outfielder who toiled for six clubs during his 7-season major league career. His fielding was so bad that he set the forgettable record of lowest season fielding average for a shortstop in 100 or more games with an .851 mark for his hometown Baltimore Orioles in 1901, 47 points below the league average at the position. (He accrued 97 errors in just 112 games.) Hitting was a different story for him, as he hit .300 or better the last 4 seasons of his career, batting .312 overall lifetime. His season high was a .328 mark in his first full season, 1898, with the National League's Orioles. After his stay in the majors, he played for a time in the minors with Jersey City of the Eastern League. He died as a result of chronic nephritis two days after his 53rd birthday in 1924.
