The son of the late Thomas and Lillian Bayliss Nidds, he was born March 11, 1921, in New York City.
Mr. Nidds was a retired master mechanic for the New York State Department of Mental Health in Melville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946, and a member of the American Legion Post in West Islip.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberty and a past president of the Church Council. Active in scouting throughout New York State, he was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 977, F.&A.M., in Amityville; The Order of DeMolay; and two Order of the Eastern Star Chapters, Amityville Chapter #700 and Revonah-Lincoln Chapter #443 in Liberty.
Mr. Nidds is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mae Schmitt Bernstein Nidds, at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Laurence and Pat Nidds of Bethpage, L.I.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Steven Bernstein of Bettendorf, Iowa; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Peggy Nidds of Lake George; three grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Bernstein and Jenel Nels; and a great-grandchild, Connor Bernstein. He was predeceased by a son, Staff Sgt. Daniel Nidds who is missing in action in Vietnam.
Friends may call at the Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main St., Liberty, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
The Liberty Masonic Lodge #521 will hold services at 8 p.m. Friday evening.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24 Chestnut St., Liberty, with the Rev. Audrey Pedersen officiating.
Cremation will be made at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope.
