Dr. R. W. Gannett

Clifton Springs – Mrs Clara Barker, Dayton Ave., Clifton Springs, has been notified of the death of her brother, Dr. Ray W. Gannett, 72, a veterinarian in Brooklyn for 50 years. Dr. Gannett died at his home there Monday night (Aug. 23, 1954).
The body is being sent to Lyons and will be at the Frederick Boeheim & Sons Funeral Home, 10 Jackson St., from mid-morning Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday. A committal service will be held at the East Newark Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday with the Rev. John M. Whallon, pastor of Lyons Presbyterian Church officiating.
Dr. Gannett was born on a farm in the Town of Phelps Mar. 28, 1882, a son of Willard and Amelia Lang Gannett. He attended the Phelps school and then received his veterinarian degree at Cornell. For about two years he practiced in Newark before going to Brooklyn. He was a member of the State Board of Regents for several years.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Benning Gannett: three daughters, Mrs. Natalie LeLano(Delano) of Connecticut, Mrs. Dorothy Pideback(Tidabeck) of New Jersey and Mrs. Lois Doolittle of Long Island; five sons, Robert T. of Brooklyn, William H, of Rochester, Ray W. Jr. of Hawaii, John of Philadelphia and Clifford Gannett of Lang Island; 19 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. DeRoy Taylor of Newark, Mrs. Barker, and Mrs. Carol(Carroll) Sutter of Webster; two brothers, Leon H. Gannett and Arthur M. Gannett, both of Lock Berlin, and several nieces and nephews.
