Hickman, John Thomas (J.T.) – age 87 of Knoxville passed away Monday, September 8, 2014. J.T. served in US Army during WWII as a postal carrier in Italy. He started his professional career as a salesman for JCPenney and later became a tire salesman for Best One Tire, formerly Tinsley Tire. J.T. was a founding member of Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church, originally from McCalla Avenue Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, tending to his yard and farm, singing in the choir, and leading music for his Sunday School class. Preceded in death by parents, Earl and Esther Hickman; and infant sister. Survived by wife of 66 years, Pauline Lynch Hickman; son and daughter-in-law, John L. and Anna Hickman; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Rick Leake; grandchildren, Jamie Laposta, Heather Baryo, Krystle Parrott, and Ellery Leake; great granddaughter, Gaia Schrimpsher; brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Alice Hickman; sisters-in-law, Jessie Booker, Mona (Spoody) George, Lou Lynch, and Artie Lynch; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Bridges Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Vincent officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:45 AM Friday at Asbury Cemetery for an 11:00 AM interment with military honors provided by the East TN Veteran Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 865-523-4999.
