Reuben Randlett Dead--Civil War Veteran was one of the oldest Odd Fellows in U.S.
Reuben A. Randlett, 94, veteran of the Civil war and said to be the oldest member of the I.O.O.F. lodge in the United States, died at his home, 2607 Lincoln street, early Monday morning. Mr. Randlett was born at Bridgewater, New Hampshire, October 18, 1837, and came to Kansas March 26, 1856.
He took a prominent part in the border ruffian warfare in Kansas, serving as a lieutenant in Company A. He was taken prisoner by Quantrill in February, 1862. As some of Quantrell's men were prisoners at Fort Leavenworth, Quantrill held him in the hope of getting his men exchanged. The attempt failed and Quantrill paroled him at Independence, Missouri. Mr. Randlett organized the second regiment of militia and was elected its first colonel in 1863. He was assigned to General Thomas Carney's staff and later to General George W. Dietzler's staff. He served during the Price raid at the battles of the Blue and Westport. He helped hew the timbers for the first bridge built over the Kaw river at Topeka. The bridge was constructed in the winter and spring of 1857-58. Had he lived until October 5, he would have been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge 70 years. He was grand patriarch in 1868, grand representative in 1871-72, and grand master in 1872.

He was married to Miss Jane Palmer, May 24, 1857. She died August 18, 1917. On September 3, 1918, he was married to Mrs. Nannie Pliley. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, F.A. Randlett, Osage City; a daughter, Mrs. W.C. Sherman, Kansas City, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Frank Randlett, Kansas City, Mo., W.A. Sherman, Kansas City, Kan., R.A. Randlett, Jr., and W.L. Hopkins, Topeka.

Funeral services will be at Penwell's chapel, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The G.A.R. and Relief Corps will have charge of the services. The I.O.O.F. lodge will conduct the services at the grave in Topeka cemetery.
