Darlene V. Ray

Darlene Vera Ray passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 in Salt Lake City, Utah and continued her journey home to her Heavenly Father. She was born April 23, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Evan Dawson Ray and Faye Ella Harris. Her early years were spent in South Weber in Davis County and she graduated from Davis High School in 1961. She earned a degree in social work and psychology from Brigham Young University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. Darlene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. As a young girl, she cherished her LDS camp experiences at Camp Lomondi and was ever proud to be a “Lomondi Girl.” She served a mission for her church in the Gulf States and served faithfully in many church callings. Her life was one of service to her Heavenly Father, family, friends and fellow men. Darlene had a thirty year career in Social Work in a variety of settings as well as private practice. She loved her profession and considered it an honor to work with children, adolescents, parents and families. She enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful colleagues and coworkers. Darlene enjoyed music, flowers, reading, fine dining, laughing and connecting with family members and friends. She dearly loved her Backslider Book Club Sisters who met monthly for over thirty years. She had a generous and compassionate heart and many people benefited from her love and caring. She was especially grateful to dear friends, neighbors and family members who helped her so much during the past couple of years. Darlene was a “bright light” in the world and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Don, a sister, Marilyn and brother in laws, Elvin Atkinson and R. Dale Brown. She is survived by her sister Joyce Ray Brown. She was proud of her pioneer ancestors, the Ray, Dawson, Harris and Parker families, her aunts, uncles and many cousins.
