Mary Jane Wilson was the daughter of CPL John M (or W) Wilson and Elizabeth Morgan. She was the oldest of the three Wilson children and at least seven Marcum children. Her father, John, enlisted in the Civil War on 2 Feb 1864. John served in Co. H, 73rd Ohio Infantry. He was killed in action in 1864 at New Hope Church, Georgia. Her mother, Elizabeth Morgan Wilson, remarried in 1866 in Scioto County, Ohio to Randolph Marcum.

The family moved to Minnesota sometime between 1868 and 1870. In 1875, they lived in Collinwood, Meeker County, MN before moving to Texas.

Mary Jane Wilson married Charles Clifford Martin in 1877 at Palo Pinto, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1917. They had nine children, four of them passed before the age of five.

Mary Jane went by MJ when she was younger and Jennie when she was older. She is buried next to her brother brother Harvey and many Martin kin.
