Dovie Lorene Bemis age 101, of Mt Sterling, IL passed away at 1:25 AM August 7, 2014 at Hertiage Health, Therapy and Senior Care in Mt. Sterling, IL. She was born September 5, 1912 in Brown County, IL the daughter of G. Albert and Dora Bell Boss Dobey. She married O. L. Bemis on November 28 1946 in Mt Sterling, IL and he preceded her in death on June 19, 1977. Mrs Bemis was a homemaker and she assisted her husband with the operation of the family business, including Bemis Livestock and Trucking, Bemis Elevator and Land of Lincoln Motel all in Mt Sterling, IL. She attended Brown County Schools and Gem City Business College in Quincy, IL. Mrs Bemis was a member of the Mt Sterling First United Methodist Church where she attended the 3B's Sunday School Class. She was also a 55 year member of the Mt Sterling American Legion Post #374 Auxiliary and the Brown County Home Extension. Dovie truly loved her community and throughout her life she volunteered through numerous civic organizations and was always willing to help anyone in need. Survivurs include 2 children, Gordon Bemis and his wife Sue of Plainfield, Indiana and Shirley Kleinlein and her husband Bruce of Gilbert, Arizonia. 9 grandchildren, Brett Brmis (Dawn), Krystal Roan (Roger), Scott Bemis (Donna), Kay Matthewson (Rick), Kathy Stambaugh (Todd), Bryan andBrandon, Kleinlein, Denny Bemis (Cindy) and Tammy Gilliam (Tom) also survive along with 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother Angus Dobey, 1 sister Clesta Arnel and 1 great grandchild. She was cremated and a memorial service was held in the First United Methodist Church on September 6, 2014. The Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt Sterling handled the arrangements. Burial in the Mt Sterling City Cemetery.
