John eventually married Margaret Spikes and had four children, John Thomas (Uncle Tom) Franklin (1853 - 1935), and Felix S. Franklin (1855 - 1927). John Franklin died from erysipelas in his nose and is buried on the west side of Cedar Creek in Kaufman County on the road from Kaufman to Prairieville, Texas.
