Sir Gervase Clifton, father of George, had by his first marriage five daughter, who all but one died un married; by his second wife he had George who being of a consumptive habit, was prevailed upon to marry when only nineteen, and died in the lifetime of his father" -[See George for more details].
"There is a large alter tomb, on which are placed, in a recumbent position, Sir Gervase Clifton, who died 20th January, 1857, and his two wives; the first was Mary, the daughter of Sir John Neville, of Crete, in the county of York; the other Winifred, daughter and heiress of William Thwaites, of Oulton, in Suffolk; this lady was the widow of Sir George Pierrepont, of Holme Pierrepont, nd grandmother of Robert Pierrepont; the first Earl of Kingston."

Clifton, in the County of Nottingham, Knt. and
Dame Mary his first Wife, Daughter of Sir John Ne-
ville of Cheete, in the County of York, Knt. And
of Dame Winifride his second Wife, the Daughter
and Heir of William Thwaites, of Owlton, in the
County of Suffolk, Esq; which Dame Mary de-
ceased the 10th of April, Anno 1564. And the
said Sir Gervase deceased the 20th Day of January,
Anno 1587. And the said Winifride de-
ceased [--------].
