FLUID EXPLODES; WOMAN BURNED
Mrs. Mary Dietz, aged 79, Likely to Die, Say Doctors

Mrs. Mary Dietz, aged 79, of 1359 West Fisher street, was burned, probably fatally, this morning when an unidentified fluid which she is said to have poured into a kitchen stove, exploded, igniting her clothing. Very little hope for her recovery was held our by officials of Epworth hospital, where she was taken by police.
Firemen from hose companies Nos. 4 and 2, arriving on the scene, found that relatives had wrapped the woman in blankets and extinguished the flames on her clothing. They administered first aid and called for the police ambulance and then set about extinguishing the fire in the house which did damage estimated at about $100 in the kitchen.

Investigators could not agree whether the fluid was kerosene or naphtha.
