Mary A. Cornwell, 91, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, September 4, 2014, at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. She was born in Jersey City, NJ, March 20, 1923, the daughter of the late Peter and Bessie Kowal. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 68 years, James S. (Jim) Cornwell; loving daughter, Cheryl Cornwell-Huston; and sister, Helen Bettucci. She is survived by her son, Larry Cornwell; and son-in-law, Peter Huston; grandchildren and their spouses, Damien and Juli Cornwell, Miles Huston, Kyle and Aleen Huston, Rhonda Plunkett-Carbone and Mike Carbone; Jon and Cindi; great-granddaughters, Olivia and Natalie Cornwell; and several nieces and nephews. Toward the end times she enjoyed the company and care of Dorothea Cornwell. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who always made sure her family had nutritious and delicious meals daily and maintained an immaculate household. She and Jim attended the Tabernacle Methodist Church, where Jim was an usher for 40+ years. Mary and Jim loved to dance and bowl and they entered many local bowling tournaments. One year they won first place. She loved to go to Florida for a month or two in the winter for many years. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Fischer-Scholder Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Chenango St. with Pastor Wilfredo J. Baez officiating. Entombment will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service.
