Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Pocahontas. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. There will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m.

Gwendolyn Anne Gannon was born September 11, 1927, in Hutchinson, MN, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys Gannon. She was a 1945 graduate of Pocahontas Catholic High School.

On June 23, 1951, Gwen was united in marriage to Roy "Wire" Stokes at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, IA. The couple settled and raised their family west of Mallard where they farmed for many years.
After Wire passed away in 1992, Gwen moved to Mallard.

Gwen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. She stayed very active in her church and several ladies' social clubs in the Mallard area.

Gwen was an avid sports fan, and she loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. She enjoyed playing golf, watching her grandchildren participate in all of their activities and spending time with her family and friends.

Gwen passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; two brothers: Francis and William Gannon.
