Amanda Francis was the 6th child born to William Johnston and Elizabeth Ann Terrell Johnston.
When Amanda was 17 she became the first wife of Samuel McClure Morgan. They were married at her parents home in White Plains by the Reverend E.T. Smyth on 13 Nov 1855.
Her sister Mary Caroline "Carrie" married Samuel's father Caleb Garrison Morgan.
