Mrs. Mary McElveen Bentley, 88, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home. Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, September 8, 2014, at Lane’s Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Brooklet, GA, with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
Mrs. Bentley was born on March 26, 1926, in Bulloch County, GA, to the late Barbour Cone McElveen and Naomi Davis McElveen. She graduated from the Middle Georgia Hospital School of Nursing and was the Director of Nursing at the Macon County Clinic. Mrs. Bentley was a member of the Oglethorpe Garden Club. She was a loyal friend. She loved to fish and garden, and was known by her family for her wonderful cooking and great sense of humor. She also generously shared her nursing skills to care for her family and neighbors. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bentley was preceded in death by her husband, G. E. “Ed” Bentley, and her children, Terrence W. Bentley, Brenda F. Hobbs, and Betty Bentley.
