Clinton Myron Moore, 86, passed peacefully in his sleep after a short battle with cancer, on Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home in Smithdale, MS. Clinton was born July 29, 1928 in the community of Auburn, MS to Charlie H. and Dollie Allred Moore. He retired from the US Army after serving his country for twenty one years including time with the occupational forces of WW II, tank commander in Korea, and advisor to the Filipino Army in Vietnam.

He was one of the Chosin Frozen and participated in the Inchon Landing. The years he spent in military service carried him all over the world and gave him many stories to share with his family, friends, and even casual acquaintances. He earned numerous commendations including the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal, and Military Merit Award.

After his retirement he was active in his community as a member of Concord Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed working with the Independence Community Christian Men’s Club and his weekly visits for catfish at Justin’s on the Lake. His love for his family led him to travel to many sporting, academic, and extracurricular events.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lofton Moore, his parents, his sister Ilene, and his niece, Karen Jackson.

Survivors left to continue sharing his tales are his sister, Elaine Jackson of Griffin, Ga; brother-in-law Tommy (Glenda) Lofton of Baton Rouge, La.; his children Debbie (Wes) Arnold of Benton, La., C. Myron Moore, Jr of Missoula, MT, Charles (Joy) Moore of Diamondhead, MS, and Becky (David) O’Banion of Baytown, Tx. Seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Jim) Workman, Holly Springs, NC; Patricia (Greg) Hill, Knoxville, TN; Jonathan(Lindsay)Arnold, Dunbar, WI; Lindsey (Shanne)Todd, Biloxi, MS; C. Sam Moore, Jr., Diamondhead, MS; Joshua O’Banion, Nacogdoches, TX; and Jacob Moore, Diamondhead, MS. Eleven great-grandchildren, Clinton Workman; Caleb, Andrew, Madison, and Emily Hill; Nate, Ben, Luke, and Sadie Arnold; Nathaniel and Elizabeth Todd. He also leaves cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and special neighbors, Tom and Jo Hancock. The family would like to especially thank Cheryl Robinson and the rest of the VA family for their care over the years.

Visitation will be held at Catchings Funeral home in Summit, MS on Thursday, September 4 from 5:30-8 pm. Services will be Friday, September 5 at Concord Baptist Church, McCall Creek, MS at 10:30 with visitation preceding. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.

He will be honored with a full military funeral with his grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. Officiates will be Rev. Wes Arnold, Rev. Stephanie Workman, and Dr. Jonathan Arnold. If one prefers, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Independence Community Christian Men’s Club at 9120 Burt Jordan Road, Smithdale, MS 39664. Catchings Funeral Home, Summit is in charge of the arrangements.
