Mary Elizabeth Cross Liles, 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at her home in the Waltonwood Senior Living Community in Cary.
Lib was born on December 19, 1924 in Wake County to the late Frank E. Cross and Mary Alice Edwards Cross.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Otho E. Liles, Jr., a brother Charles H. Cross and a sister Ruby C. King.
Though Lib loved her working years with the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, making a home for Otho and her 3 children became her life's work. A homemaker she would proudly say when asked her occupation. Baptist she would say when asked about her church affiliation. Lib was a faithful member of Samaria Baptist Church for 45 + years, always with an emphasis on children's programs.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Samaria Baptist Church, 3621 Poole Road, Raleigh, 27610 with Dr. Charles Johnson officiating. Burial Samaria Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Liles family will be available for visiting in the church sanctuary from 12:30 to 1:45 prior to the service. The family will also receive relatives and friends immediately following the graveside portion of the service in the church fellowship hall to celebrate their Mom's favorite treat, ice cream. Everyone is welcome.
Surviving; Daughters: Alice L. Smith and husband, George of Cary, Margaret L. Lewis and husband, Thomas of Raleigh; Son: Otho E. Liles, III and wife, Sharee of New Hill; Grandsons: Michael Liles and his wife Courtney and William (Bill) Liles.
As a cousin of Mike and Bill's, Grandma Lib welcomed the addition of Erin Meyers who along with her husband Brad and son Ethan have become a special part of this family.
Lib is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Dock Liles, Mack Liles and his wife Ann with many nieces and nephews from the extended Liles family.
The family is most grateful for the loving and caring staff of the Waltonwood community who not only provided Mom with excellent care but much fun, laughter and joy. The family also wishes to extend a special thanks to the Transitions LifeCare Team as well for their caring support.
