He is the son of John Curit, the settler on Chebeague and who married Jane Hamilton. [The John Curit mentioned as "settler" was born in Cape Elizabeth and the son of the Curit that arrived from Guadalupe (West Indies). Stephen Curit was captain of the Sloop Hero (Little Hero). He had two twin sons, John and Stephen, who crewed for him.
