The body was at the home of his mother, Mrs Nellie Howell, in Smoot Saturday morning prior to the services and many friends called. Burial was at Ogden, Utah.

He was born Feb 20, 1921, a son of Edwin and Nellie Gomm Howell at Montpelier, Idaho. He lived at Fish Haven, Idaho until he was five years old, when the family moved to Smoot, where they purchased a farm and he was raised. R. L. or "Tubby" as he was better known received his elementary schooling at Smoot and attended the Star Valley High School.

At age 19 he married Esther Jorgensen, a widow who had three little children, and was happy that they had a family. Their marriage failed and in 1940 he married Virginia Tillard of Raidersburg, Mont.

He was sent overseas while in the armed forces during World War II in 1944-45, and while serving in the European Theater of Operations in France he received a serious spinal injury from which he never recovered, and which disabled him from that time until his death. He had a number of spinal operations and many hospitalizations but did not improve much. He worked for some time as an inspector at Hill Air Force Base, Ogden, Utah.

After 13 years he and Virginia separated. Later he married Mary Ireland of Ogden. They leased the farm at Smoot, but R. L was unable to do the heavy farm work necessary so they moved. They were married for nine years, then separated. On Jan 9, 1965 he married Marvella Payton of Ogden. He found joy with her and her family for a short time.

He loved athletics and spent much time with elderly people and children and loved them. He was gifted in music and loved to sing. He played his alto horn in a number of bands.

Survivors include his wife Marvella, of Kemmerer, and his mother Mrs Nellie Howell.
