Born in Leon, Iowa, Mrs. Gaines had lived in Brook 60 years. She was married in 1897 in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Perry Gaines, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Brook E.U.B. Church and the WCTU.
Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. Jennie Hopewell of Brook. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank Gaines of Rensselaer; a niece, Mrs. Pearl Miller of Peoria, Ill.; a granddaughter and 30 grand nieces and nephews.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at Hershman & Weston Funeral Home, Brook; services there are 1 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Donald Wilson officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Brook.
