Anne Blair Alderson

LEWISBURG - Anne Blair Alderson, 79, died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at her home following a long illness.

Mrs. Alderson was the daughter of George Price Alderson and Lydia Comstock Alderson, formerly of Charleston.

She was a graduate of University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and held a master's degree in social work from the University of Kansas. She was the founding director of the Greenbrier Valley Mental Health Clinic in Lewisburg, now known as Seneca Health Services. She retired in 1979.

Mrs. Alderson was an enthusiastic cook, traveler, gardener and supporter of the arts and social causes. She was cherished by her family and her many friends for her warmth, colorful personality, flair and irrepressible joie de vie.

Survivors include a sister, Lydia Alderson Preston of Washington, D.C., and Lewisburg; her nephew, George Coleman Alderson of Walkertown, N.C.; her nieces, Lydia Preston Hicks of Alexandria, Va., Elizabeth Montgomery Preston of Los Angeles, Calif., Laura Anne Kearns of Decatur, Ga.; a nephew, Thomas Kearns of Columbus, Ga.; six grandnieces and grandnephews.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, Lewisburg, followed by interment at Rosewood Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests donations be made to Carnegie Hall or the Family Refuge Center, both in Lewisburg.
