Cliff, 81, Carlsbad, died in the evening at Silvergate Suites as a result from a fall in the bathroom. He had lived there a little over a year.

He was the son of Clifford and Mary (Decker) Dearbaugh, Sr. On Aug 1, 1953, in Toledo, OH, he married Judy, who survives with her husband, Dean Heyenga, in El Cerrito, CA. For a very short time he was married to Margie Stern. On Apr 2, 1982, he married JoAnn (Hunt) Johnson, who survives at Silvergate, San Marcos, CA.

Also surviving are two sons: Michael 'Mike' (Tony Chan), and Todd, Guerneville, CA; three stepsons, Tim (Robyn) Johnson, Matt (Cheryl) Johnson and Mike Johnson; a stepdaughter, Julie (Rich) Seel; and five step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Deceased are a half-brother, Ted Braden; and a stepson, Ted Johnson.

He graduated from DeVilbiss High School, Toledo, in 1950. He received his BA from Toledo University. He and his first wife lived in many locations. Besides Toledo, where his second son was born, they lived in Coldwater, MI, Houston, TX, where their first son was born, Vandalia, OH, and Carlsbad, CA. He taught and was a counselor his whole working life. He was a counselor at Carlsbad High School before retiring from El Camino High School, where he taught English. He received a WHO (We Honor Ours) award for excellence in education. He and JoAnn, traveled extensively after they both retired. In the late 1990's his life took a turn after a brain aneurysm was discovered. The doctors performed surgery. Due to complications, he had multiple brain surgeries to correct problems that had detrimental aftereffects for the rest of his life. He was active at First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside, CA. He was an usher there for many years. He is missed more than words are adequate to describe. I will love you forever, Dad.

Services will be at the church, with Pastor Tim Beal officiating.
