Houston businesswoman Vivian Smith dies at 81 HOUSTON-Philanthropist and businesswoman Vivian Leatherberry Smith of Houston died Tuesday at her home.She was the widow of Houston oilman and investor R.E. "Bob" Smith.

Funeral services were held Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Houston.Dr.William Hinson and Dr.Boyd Wagner officiated.Burial followed at Forest Park,Lawndale.

One of 10 children,Mrs.Smith was born Jan. 10,1908,in the Houston Heights area.She graduated from Heights High School in 1925,and attended Sinclair Business College.She and her husband were partners in such business enterprises as oil and gas exploration,ranching and land investing and development.

Mrs.Smith was a trustee of the Texas Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine,at the time of her death.She owned a small interest in the Houston Sports Association,which owns,the Houston Astros.She was an avid Astros fan and until her recent illness she rarely missed watching her beloved Astros on the playing field.
