Raymond graduated from Laurel Hill School in 1968. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served three years with the 503rd Military Police, Fort Bragg, N.C. On December 20, 1968, he married Betty Frances Jernigan of Laurel Hill. In February 1974, Raymond began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol and served 29 faithful years as a state trooper.
Raymond was a man full of life who loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed attending car shows with Betty and their friends. He was a music enthusiast and he and Betty often enjoyed wonderful times with friends at their karaoke get-togethers. His career as a state trooper was something he took great pride in. Raymond was quite the jokester and always had a joke or funny story to tell that was sure to put a smile on your face.
Raymond is preceded by his father, Charles "Buddy" Stokes; and his mother, Nettie Louise Stokes, of Paxton, Fla.; and mother-in-law, Ella Frances Jernigan of Laurel Hill.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Betty Jernigan Stokes; daughter, Jennifer (Ben) Crews of Laurel Hill; son, Raymond "Bo" (Jessica) Stokes of Crestview, Fla.; grandchildren, Hailey White, Bailey Stokes, Brycen Stokes, Hannah Crews and Kilee Crews; family pet, Feather Ewoka Stokes; sister-in-law, Nancy (Joel) Weekley of Laurel Hill; and father-in-law, Earl Jernigan of Laurel Hill.
