Edgar J. Wright Jr., 92, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014, at his residence. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth Davis Wright for 44 years. Born August 14, 1922, in Madison Heights, he was a son of the late Edgar J. Wright and Minnie Proffitt Wright. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Beverly Wright, Henry B. Wright, Charles F. Wright and Chiquita W. Mills. Edgar was a graduate of Madison Heights High School and Lynchburg College and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a retired Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration having worked in Martinsburg, W.Va, and Lynchburg, Va. with 31 years of service. He loved to play golf and travel, especially on cruises. He was an avid Boggle and Scrabble player, and family members found him very hard to beat. He also loved working crossword puzzles and going to the movies. He was a perfect "Southern Gentleman" and was so very proud of his many nieces and nephews. They all called him "Uncle Ed" and he will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory a brother, Richard Wright of Alexandria; 31 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Edgar's Life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service by Pastor Bart Edwards with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Edgar Wright Jr. to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24502 or to your favorite charity.
