MARSHALL — Funeral services for Virgil Frank Wilson, 83, of Longview, Texas, will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at the chapel of Downs Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas, with the Rev. Bob Madison officiating. A visitation will take place from 6-8 p.m. today, September 4, 2014, at Downs Funeral Home. Mr. Wilson passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Longview.
Virgil Wilson was born April 24, 1931, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, to John H. Wilson and Edna Carpenter Wilson. Virgil married Betty Hickman Allen Wilson July 18, 1963, in Marshall. This year they celebrated 51 years of marriage. Mr. Wilson retired from Kemper National Insurance Company in 1990. He attended the Church of Nazarene in Marshall where he was the choir director for many years. He loved to sing and was an avid outdoorsman.
Surviving Mr. Wilson are his wife, Betty Hickman Allen Wilson; and his four daughters, Frankie Jo Raney and husband, Tom, of Longview, Suzanne Mahfood and husband, Michael, of Tyler, Pixie Lynn Green and husband, Tom, of Marshall and Debra Ann Alford and husband, Mark, of Longview.
Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, Shawn Raney and wife, Ann, of Miliani City, Hawaii, Nicole Wilson and husband, Cory, of Kilgore, Christopher Raney and wife, Carrie, of Longview, Emily Suzanne Smith and husband, Shannon, of Whitehouse, Benjamin Mahfood and wife, April, of Tyler, Teresa Schick and husband, Jerry, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Sarah Michael Gribble and husband, John, of Tyler, Matthew Mahfood and wife, Kayla, of Tyler, Jacob Green of Marshall, Jeremy Green and wife, Carrie, of Harleton, Jodie Green of Marshall, Crystal Marie Skinner and husband, Curt, of Hallsville and Rocky Stephen Alford and wife, Tiffany, of Harleton.
He is also survived by 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arliss Wilson and wife, Phyliss, of Tyler; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Henry “Pete” Wilson; sister, Virginia Odell Ebbling; and grandson, Eli Alford.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Raney, Ben Mahfood, Matt Mahfood, Rocky Alford, Jacob Green, Jeremy Green and Jodie Green. Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Raney, Dr. Michael Morris, Dr. Shamir Germanwala, Dr. David Jaykar and Melissa McNabb, RN.
