Major League Baseball Player. He made history when he became the youngest pitcher at the age of seventeen to win a game during the 20th century. He accomplished this feat on October 3, 1943. Born Roger Hornsby Mckee (named after Hall of Fame player Rogers Hornsby, he also went by Roger), he marked his Major League debut with the Philadelphia Phillies on August 18, 1943, one month shy of his seventeenth birthday. His experience at such an early age was the result of the shortage of Major League players due to World War II. His historic feat (a complete game victory) happened on October 3,1943, at Forbes Field against the Pittsburgh Pirates. McKee served with the United States Navy during World War II and following his baseball career, he coached on the high school level and worked for the United States Postal Service.
