Reba was married to the late Staff Sgt. James Arvil Ellison who gave his life in France during the D-Day invasion in 1944. She was born in Bullock County, GA, to the late Absalom Matthew and Daisy Ella Dixon Gay. Affectionately known as Aunt Bebo, she was known for her poetry recitals.

In addition to her parents, Reba now joins in heavenly rest her sister, Claraleck; brothers, Clarence E. Gay, Harold C. Gay, Doy F. Gay and A.M. Gay; and her son-in-law, A.B. Kelly, Jr.
