Mr. McCully has given a part of his life to public service; he has been Justice of the Peace of Lake Prairie township two or three terms; was mayor of the city of Pella seven terms; was a member of the Board of Supervisors of Marion County and a member of the 19th General Assembly , serving with credit to himself in each of these places and to the entire satisfaction of the public, dying at last in the harness his life shortened by devotion to duly. Mr. McCully during the past few years devoted his attention exclusively to real estate, dealing principally in southern lands, in which he was successful. He died at his home among the people who honored and respected him and testified to this by calling upon him on different occasions and in various capacities to serve and to represent them. In politics he was always a democrat, maintaining his opinions with vigor and earnestness.
He was not a member of any church but a firm believer in the merits of the salvation offered through our Lord Jesus Christ and in Whom he trusted.
