Under the name Starr Yelland, Emory Starr Yelland was a long time radio and television broadcaster with the CBS affilate (then KLZ) in Denver. BS (1938), Journalism, University of Iowa. Yelland started broadcasting in Iowa before moving to Denver in 1940. In Denver, Yelland started broadcasting with KOA radio, the NBC affaliate, in 1940. Yelland returned to KOA after the end of the war, and later in 1954 began a long career with KLZ, where he covered all sports including play by play coverage of the University of Colorado Buffaloes football for 28 years. He also was a news anchor for KLZ and later KMGH-TV. Yelland was an avid golfer. Inducted into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, a 2006 inductee to the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame, and a 2008 inductee into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame.
