Mrs. Hattie Rigsby: Mrs. Hattie Brackens Rigsby, 63, of Route 1, Leicester, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in an Asheville hospital following a long illness. Mrs. Rigsby was a native of Madison County, a resident of Buncombe County 15 years, a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and a daughter of Woodfin Brackens and the late Mrs. Etta Crains Brackens. She was the widow of Robert Rigsby. Surviving, in addition to the father, are three sons; Paul Rigsby of Detroit, Michigan, Fate Rigsby of Tampa, Florida, and John Rigsby of Asheville; four daughters, Mrs. Rosa Mae Norton of Leicester, Mrs. Rellie Cutshall of Asheville, Mrs. Nellie Rogers of Biggs, California, and Mrs. Thelma Powell of Oteen. Also three stepsons; Hubert Rigsby of Greeneville, Tennessee, Wade Rigsby of Mars Hill and Fred Rigsby of Asheville. Two stepdaughters; Mrs. Lizzie Rice of Flag Pond, Tennessee, and Mrs. Hattie Rice of Marshall. Four sisters; Mrs. Maude Hardin of Erwin, Tennessee, Mrs. Hassie Edwards, Mrs. Cassie Rice and Mrs. Mary Ann Wallin of Marshall. Two brothers; Frazier Brackens of Iceland and Rothie Brackens of U.S. Merchant Marine, 26 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the New Hope Baptist Church. The Reverend Charles Stockton and the Reverend Otto Massey will officiate. Burial will be in New Liberty Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Fred Cutshall, Edison Cutshall, Orville Rigsby, Arnold Rigsby, Bill McCurrey, and Joe Daniel Lewis. Flower bearers will be women of the church. The body will be taken Monday afternoon to the home of a son, John Risgby, at 1071 Patton Avenue, to await the service hour. Anders-Rice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
