On Sunday last at 8 1/2 o'clock in the morning the spirit of Joshua Nixon took its flight to that better world. He was sick just 53 days, a greater portion of which time he was not in his right mind and could not recognize his most intimate friends. Robert Nixon, of Oswego, Kansas, arrived at the bedside of his dying brother only a couple of hours before he breathed his last. Mr. Nixon, was born in Ohion in 1813, and moved to Newport in 1828, he then being only 15 years of age. He resided here up to the time of his decease, and was respected by everyone as an honorable, upright citizen. He had but few enemies, if any. He had been a true and accepted member of the M.E. Church for the last 20 years. The funeral took place last Monday afternnon, at his late residence, Rev. W.A. Smith, of Shawnee, Tippecanoe County, officiating. After services the remains were followed by the relatives and a large concource of friends to the Thomas Cemetery, where the inanimate clay was lowered into the silent grave, there to await the morn of the resurrection.
