The death of Charles L. Gilbert, 87, a veteran of the Civil war, occurred at the Soldiers' Home hospital at 4 a.m. last Thursday. Mr. Gilbert had been in poor health for several years and his death is attributed to a chronic heart ailment. He had been a resident of Nebraska for a half century and had been a member of the Home for about fifteen years, coming here from Grafton, Neb. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Carrie Van Patten, of Grafton; Mrs. J. A. Reeder, of Lyman; Mrs. Grace Frank, of Woodruff, Kas., and one son, C. V. Gilbert of Broadwater, Neb. His wife preceded him in death. The body was taken to Republican City for burial at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, accompanied by two daughters.
