Bernard K. Rice, 83, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday August 31, 2014 at Unity Point Health - Trinity Rock Island.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave, Rock Island. Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Q.C. Paws.

Bernard was born October 16, 1930, in Moline, the son of Richard and Marie (DePauw) Rice. He married Marjorie Ahrens on November 1, 1952. She preceded him in death January 6, 1996. Bernard worked for the Rock Island Police Department as the Captain for 35 years before his retirement.

Bernard enjoyed fishing, gardening, and doing yard work.

He will be remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Rice; his daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Bearl Bruffett; his special friend Shirley Thomas; his grandchildren, Leslie (Emmett) McNair, Kristin (Erik) Rassmausen, Kaylee Bruffett, Andrea Moffitt, Justin Moffitt, Jeffery Moffitt; his five great grandchildren; his brother William Rice, Lake Forrest, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie; parents; and his daughter Dana Rice-Lofgren.
