Thanks to Ernest Rucker for the following inscription that appears on a cenotaph in front of the courthouse in Fayette:

"Erected by the school children of Jefferson Co. He had been the Superintendent of Education for many years. He lived in the Red Lick area where he maintained the Office of the Supt. of Education. He was buried in the Red Brick Church Cemetery in Red Lick in the family plot."
