Opal Reno Gordon, 100, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at McCrite Plaza Retirement Community, where she lived since September 2012.

She was born October 18, 1913, in Halls, Missouri, the daughter of Fred and Maude (Gillespie) Reno. She was a graduate of Gower Missouri High School and Clark’s School of Business in Topeka. Early in her adult life she was employed by WIBW Radio Station for approximately five years and later was employed by the Garlinghouse Company for 28 years, before retiring.

She will be missed by a loving family that includes a son, Donald N. (Nancy) Gordon, Carbondale, KS; granddaughters, Debra Gordon and husband, Kenneth Tripkos, Topeka, Kimber (Robert) Budden, rural Ozawkie, KS and Brenda Colvin, Kansas City, KS; four great-grandchildren, Rebecca (Trevor) Tast, Tonganoxie, KS, Ryan Streeter, Kansas City, KS, Joshua Colvin, Lenexa, KS and Christopher Colvin, Lawrence, KS; and a great-great-granddaughter, Cecilia Lynn Tast, Tonganoxie, KS.

Opal married Albert David "A.D." Gordon on April 2, 1949 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on February 25, 1990. She was also preceded in death by a son, W. Maxwell Gordon, her parents, two brothers, Ivel and Don Reno and a sister, Beulah Reno.

Opal and her husband were members of the New Hope United Methodist Church, Swinging Squares Dance Club and enjoyed golfing and league bowling. Opal continued bowling until 2011.

A funeral ceremony will be 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka.
