Walter Smith Grooms 91, of Ceylon, Carmichaels R. D.1, died Saturday, January 11, 1958, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. He was a son of Archibald and India Smith Grooms, and was born November 4, 1866, at Carmichaels, R.D. 1. His wife, Anna Randolph Grooms, died eight years ago. For 17 years he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels. Later after moving to the Ceylon area, he was an active member of the New Providence Presbyterian Church at the Glades. Surviving are three sons, Robert of Crucible; Fred of Chicago, Ill.; and Master Sergeant Howard Grooms in the U.S. Air Force at Geiger Field, Spokane, Washington; and one daughter, Mary, wife of Ray Mundell of Paisley. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Grooms of Carmichaels; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Barclay of Fort Louden; Mrs. Edna McMinn and Mrs. Alice Condit, both of Carmichaels. Funeral services were held Monday in the Condit Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Alfred M Deemer. Interment in Laurel Point Cemetery.
