Eleanor Ruth Strickland Adams, 88, of Atlanta, formerly of LaGrange, is resting peacefully now with her heavenly father. She passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the EAMC Lanier Nursing Home in Valley, Al.
Ms. Adams was born November 3, 1925 in LaGrange the daughter of the late Milton Strickland Sr. and Blonde Hubbard Strickland. After she graduated LaGrange College, she taught middle school for over 40 years in the Fulton County School System. She was a member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church, and the National Day Lily Hemerocallis Society in Atlanta. She loved working in her garden, growing daylilies and traveling, but most of all she loved her family and being a loving mother and grandmother, and was greatly loved and admired by all who knew her. .
She is survived by her loving children; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman L. Adams Jr. and Cindy of Lanett, Al., a daughter, Joan Jacob of Sarasota, Fl., a brother, Jack Strickland of Woodridge, VA., sisters, Joyce Dervan of LaGrange, and Elizabeth Wurst of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, grandchildren, Mathew Adams, Shelby Adams and Chase Jacob, step grandchildren Derek Vial, Corey Vial, Jason Twilley, great grandson, Luke James, and two step great grandchildren, Aiden Vial and Helena Vial. She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and sisters, Mildred Worthy, Mary McClure, Milton Strickland, Jr., Cecil Strickland, and Julian Strickland.
Visitation will be from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday, at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday September 3, 2014 at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark McGee officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilview East Cemetery.
