8/27/1949 - 7/17/2010 (age 60). Brent was a handsome, strong & intelligent man, yet privately battled some personal demons, alcoholism being foremost for many years. However, he had joined AA & been clean & sober for over 10 years before his death, & even sponsored many others in AA during those years. Yet Brent took his own life a little over a month before his 61st birthday in an uncharacteristic moment of overwhelming despair & despondence. In life, with an uncompromising deepness, he loved & cared for: his 1st wife Janis [Jensen] McDonald (married 12/27/1967, and who took her own life in early 1970's); his 2nd wife Linda Lavon [Salmon] McDonald (married 7/3/1975); his children Thad & Jenny (with Janis) & Lori (with Linda); his golfing buddies; those in AA he sponsored; & even strangers who were hurting. A Democrat & a union man through-&-through, Brent had a dogged determination & passion for politics & a profound empathy for the less fortunate. He saw the true magnificence in heaven & earth. Although a hunter and fisher, and a butcher by trade until he retired, he was truly one with nature & all living things. Brent's energy was magnetic & people found themselves drawn to his tender heart & reverberating voice. They hung on every word of his comedic & uncensored stories. Brent was survived by his 2nd wife; 3 children; mother Marjorie Tate [McDonald] Kelson; & 6 siblings: Norman Keith (Sydette) McDonald, Carrie Leah (Tom) Brooks, Stuart Alma McDonald, Arla Kaye (Roland) Eysser, Monte Tate (Lisa) McDonald, & Gae Marjorie McDonald-Sellers. Brent was predeceased by his 1st wife Janis, his nephew Trenton Lee McDonald (Norman's oldest son killed in auto crash 9/30/1990, age 18), & his father Russell Thomas McDonald (died 12/24/2003, age 84).] Any person blessed enough to know this loving, passionate & trusting man was invited to a "Celebration of Brent's Life" at the Old Mill Golf Course Club House (6080 South Wasatch Blvd) Tues. 7/27/2010 from 7:30p.m.-9:00 p.m.
